Southcoast Health recently unveiled the Harold and Virginia Lash Heart and Vascular Center at Charlton Memorial Hospital. The new two-story, 6,700 square-foot addition houses Southcoast Health’s expanding Cardiovascular Services, including a state-of-the-art hybrid operating room and future electrophysiology lab. The Hybrid OR is a cardiovascular surgical theatre equipped with advanced medical imaging devices to enable minimally-invasive surgery while bringing together doctors of different disciplines. The Hybrid OR is approximately 1,400 square feet and can accommodate up to 20 people in the room engaged in these “hybrid” surgeries. Scope of work included constructing a two-story addition connecting to their existing surgical suite in an active parking lot adjacent to the main loading dock for the hospital, secondary hospital entrance and across from the Cancer Center. Challenges beyond a tight site included building containments in active OR corridors to allow for infrastructure tie-ins and upgrades to medgases, and power.
